After a series of hope-raising reports of his possible resuscitation, popular Nollywood Actor, Junior Pope is confirmed dead! The President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria confirmed it.

An eye witness that was at the hospital posted his observation on a WhatsApp group:

“…I was at the hospital where they wanted to deposit JP’S body to the mortuary but the hospital refused accepting him because he died in the river, People were seen at the hospital praying to God to show himself and piam, Junior starts moving his body. My brother instead of moving him to the hospital for proper medical attention, they took him back to the water.Tbey could not allow God that started the reviving process to finish it, the next thing is taking him back to the shrine. God is the one with ultimate power and what he cannot do does not exist”

Junior Pope was reported to have drowned along with three others while returning from location along River Niger. From reports available, the actor and the others fell into the river as two speed boats collided.

Meanwhile, an Instagram post by the actor earlier shows the actor pleading with the boat operator to take it easy, saying he was an only child, and that he had three children to take care of. What sounded like a mockery of his fears has became a prophetic foresight of the unfortunate fate that awaited them.

Many have raised questions about safety of Nollywood’s practitioners on and off locations. Shouldn’t there have been life vests for everyone on board? Shouldn’t there have been lifeguards on board? Safety measures should be paramount. Relevant guilds and associations should seriously look into this.

Just recently, Nollywood lost John Okafor of Mr. Ibu fame, Ameachi Munagor, Sisi Quadri, Jumoke Aderounme, Salatu Gidado…the list seems endless.

May the souls of the departed rest in peace… Amen!
