It is an annual event that attracts hundreds of visitors from within and outside Cross River state to Obubra Local Government Area to witness the fascinating fishing heritage of the Okpambe people.

The event, a collaboration of the Cross River State government, the ancient Okpambe kingdom, and Coneri Nigeria is set to hold its 2024 edition on Thursday, 4th April at the Okum/Eminyi lake.

Okpambe is keen on promoting sustainable agro-tourism, supporting small-scale farmers , and equal access to land, technology, and markets. It also requires P-P-P cooperation to ensure investment in infrastructure, technology, and the establishment of 1000 fish farms to improve agricultural (aquaculture) productivity and food security. The 1000 fish farms ( Okpambe Fish plantation) will position Obubra as a major fishing and fish hub in the country, creating job opportunities for the youths and ensuring the availability of fish and fish products for tourists.

Obubra is blessed with numerous human and natural resources and apart from the Okum/Eminyi lake, the area is also blessed with beautiful sand beaches, a cave, an island, waterfalls, stone monoliths, and a rich cultural heritage.

Just visit Obubra during the Okpambe Fishing Festival and experience firsthand the hospitality and rich cultural heritage of the people.
