The leadership of Edo Civil Society Organisations (EDOCSO) led by the Interim TEC Chairman, Leftist Austine Enabulele paid a working visit to the speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, RT. Honourable Marcus Onobun on the promotion of people’s oriented laws in attaining a better state for all.

EDOCSO TEC chairman, Enabulele tasked the speaker on the need to give Edo people updates of the business of the house in record time. He went further to suggest the need for regular meetings of constituents by lawmakers as a way of taking governance to the grassroots.

Speaking further, he encouraged the speaker to partner with the organized civil society in Edo state on bills that are of public interest as he promised the continuous support of EDOCSO to the house of assembly.

The immediate past Coordinator General of EDOCSO, Leftist Omobude Agho who was part of the delegation expressed his disappointment to learn of the passage into law of the anti open grazing bill from the governor after four months from when it was passed, stating that, a law that has generated such public interest was passed without the knowledge of the people whom it was made for.

Agho went ahead to request for copies of the laws passed thus far by the state of assembly so as to enable EDOCSO use same to enlighten the public.

The speaker responding, appreciated the visitation and reaffirm that, he is a member of the civil society movement even though he currently work as a lawmaker for the people. He highlighted the challenges and progress attained as a speaker of the house, however, assured of a better and more engaging sessions with the civil society on law making and consultations.

Rt. Hon. Onobun requested regular observation of plenary by members of EDOCSO in order to be abreast with the day to day lawmaking business of assembly as it’s open to everybody to observe.

The meeting was attended by the interim executive members of EDOCSO and some immediate past executives.
